Description

Unwavering in his pursuit to win the heart of the lovely Rosina, Count Almaviva enlists the help of the valiant Figaro to steal her away from her cantankerous guardian, Bartolo, who wants to marry her himself. The Barber Figaro initiates a series of merry mix-ups and delicious double-crossings to ensure that true love triumphs after all!

Jonathan Michie

Jonathan Michie

Praised for his “vocal mastery and theatrical panache” (San Francisco Chronicle), in the 2019/20 season Jonathan Michie makes his Seattle Opera debut as Dandini in La Cenerentola and debuts with Israeli Opera as Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia. He returns to Oper Leipzig, where he will make role debuts as Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Marcello in La bohème, while reprising Pagageno in Die Zauberflöte. Michie has received awards from the International Robert Schumann Competition, the George London Foundation, the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation, to name a few. He is the youngest first prize winner in the history of the Kurt Weill Foundation’s Lotte Lenya Competition. As an actor, Michie has appeared in Off-Broadway and regional theater and is a member of Actors’ Equity.

Taylor Raven

Taylor Raven

Mezzo-soprano Taylor Raven is in her third year of the Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program at the Los Angeles Opera. This season, she sings Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte, conducted by James Colon. During the summer of 2019, Raven was a Filene Artist at Wolf Trap Opera and performed Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia. Upcoming engagements include a debut at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. She recently performed the role of Marian Anderson in Deep River: Marian Anderson Journey with Virginia Opera. In 2015, Raven won both the Adelaide Bishop Award with Central City Opera and First Place in the Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition. She is a recipient of the 2017 Sara Tucker Study Grant from the Richard Tucker Music Foundation.

Carlos Enrique Santelli

Carlos Enrique Santelli

A winner of the 2018 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, tenor Carlos Enrique Santelli is a recent graduate of Los Angeles Opera’s Domingo- Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program, where he covered Nadir in The Pearl Fishers. In the 2019-2020 season, Santelli makes his San Diego Opera debut as Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia. Recent projects with LA Opera include performances in Salome, conducted by James Conlon, and Wonderful Town, conducted by Grant Gershon. Additionally, Santelli appeared as a guest soloist in a special gala celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the LA Opera’s Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program. For the past two summers, Santelli was a member of Santa Fe Opera’s distinguished Apprentice Artist Program.

Joseph Barron

Joseph Barron

Hailed by Anthony Tommasini of the New York Times as “vocally robust” and “lyrically malevolent,” American bass-baritone Joseph Barron was a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and the Sullivan Foundation Awards. His 2019-2020 season includes a return to the Metropolitan Opera to cover the title role in Le nozze di Figaro. Barron’s other recent engagements include Tannhäuser, Rigoletto, Don Carlo, and The Nose with the Metropolitan Opera and the world premiere of The Gospel of Mary Magdalene with the San Francisco Opera, Polyphemus in Acis and Galatea with the Aix-en-Provence Festival and La Fenice, Ramfis in Aida, Grandpa Moss in The Tender Land, and Antonio in Le nozze di Figaro at the Glimmerglass Festival.

Recently named an Eastern District Winner by the Metropolitan Opera National Council, Sydney has performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic, Opera Saratoga and more. Sydney currently lives in NYC and is from Houston, TX.

Jongwon Choi

Jongwon Choi

Jongwon earned his Bachelors and Masters in Voice Performance from Seoul National University. He came to the US in the fall of 2017 to begin studies at the Mannes School of Music, where he is pursuing a Professional Studies Diploma.
